The Evils of Cosmetic Animal Testing Essay - 2159 Words

A lot of people buy cosmetic products being ignorant to the fact that, that one product has killed a lot of animals. How would you like being sprayed with poisonous liquids, taking poisonous eye drops?, or being fed toxic substances? Cosmetic factories have been doing these inhumane things and more to innocent animals for years. According to PETA, every year, millions of animals are poisoned and killed in barbaric tests that were crudely developed as long ago as the 1920s to evaluate the toxicity of consumer products and their ingredients. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other animals are forced to swallow or inhale massive quantities of a test substance or endure the pain of a chemical eating away at their sensitive eyes and†¦show more content†¦But of course a lot of cures have come from experimenting with animals and although it isn’t the best way to find cures, it does work. One of the biggest pros to animal testing is we don’t have to test on humans instead. Imagine how bad that would be to test on a non death row inmate human subject, we’d get the best results but it’s downright torture. If so many people protest the treatment of animals during experiments imagine how it’d be like with humans. Humans shouldn’t take this for granted because those animals go through so much just for us. They don’t have any say in it or know what the reason for it is, but we benefit from it. And it has made our life better, without it we wouldn’t have a lot of cures we have today. Cosmetic testing on the other hand is completely evil. Although it is better to test some of these things on animals then giving a cosmetic product to a human and just wishing them good luck. Yeah animals have DNA very similar to ours but it’s not a perfect match, and it some cases products do fail and harm humans (Product Testing, par. 1). On the other hand it’s better than not testing at all. So while putting these animals through hell rather than giving someone a faulty product is good to save some human lives, it’s still not right. Stefan’s Diaries Bloodlust Chapter 20 Free Essays

The next morning, I woke as someone shook my shoulder. â€Å"Go away,† I murmured. But the shaking was insistent. We will write a custom essay sample on Stefan’s Diaries: Bloodlust Chapter 20 or any similar topic only for you Order Now My eyes snapped open, and I realized I was lying curled up next to one of the tents at Gallaghers freak show. â€Å"Did you sleep here?† Callie asked, crossing her arms over her chest. I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, thinking about the previous evening. Id returned to the circus grounds, unsure of where else to go and had fallen asleep there. â€Å"Good morning, Miss Callie,† I said, ignoring her question. I stood up and brushed dirt off the back of my pants. â€Å"How can I help you?† She shrugged. She was clad in a pink cotton dress that showed her tiny waist and freckled arms. The color stood in contrast to her flowing red hair, and she reminded me of a wild rose. â€Å"Were going to take a few days off from the show. Father made so much money, he wants the next event to be even bigger.† Callie smiled. â€Å"The first rule of show business: Keep em wanting more.† â€Å"Hows Da–the vampire?† I asked, shielding my eyes from the sun. While my ring protected me from the agony of the rays, the sun made me feel exposed and clumsy. The dark cloaked more than my fangs, and in the light of day, I constantly had to check to make sure I wasnt moving at lightning speed, responding to questions I shouldnt be able to hear, or following my urge to feed. Callie tucked a loose strand of rust-colored hair behind her ear. â€Å"The vampire is okay, I suppose. Father has its handlers tending to it around the clock. They dont want it to die. Not yet, anyway.† Not yetwas a small comfort, but it was something. It meant I still had time. She frowned slightly. â€Å"Of course, I hardly think they should let it die at all. What were doing to it, and to the animals it fights, is totally barbaric,† she said softly, almost speaking to herself. I looked up swiftly at the words. Was she more sympathetic to Damons plight than Id imagined? â€Å"Can I see him?† I asked, surprised at my boldness. Callie swatted my arm. â€Å"No! Not unless you pay up, like everyone else. Besides, hes not here.† â€Å"Oh.† â€Å"Oh,† she said, mocking me. Then her eyes softened. â€Å"I still cant believe you slept here. Dont you have a home?† I met her gaze straight on. â€Å"I had a disagreement with my family.† It wasnt exactly a lie. The freak show was starting to wake up. The strong man walked, bleary-eyed, out of a tent. Abruptly, he dropped down to the ground and began doing push-ups. The fortune-teller headed to the secluded part of the lake, towel in hand, no doubt for a bath. And two of the ever-present burly security men were watching Callie and me curiously. Callie clearly noticed as well. â€Å"Would you like to go for a walk?† she asked, leading the way down a dirt-packed road to the edge of the lake, out of sight of the show. She picked up a stone and threw it into the water, where it landed with a thunk. â€Å"I never could skip stones,† she said, in such a sad voice that I couldnt help but burst out laughing. â€Å"Whats so funny?† she asked, hitting my arm again. The swat was playful, but the bracelets she wore were twisted through with vervain, and the contact sent a wave of pain up my arm. She put her hand on my shoulder, concern creasing her forehead. â€Å"Are you okay?† I winced. â€Å"Yes,† I lied. â€Å"Okay . . .† she said, throwing me a skeptical look. She leaned down to pick up another stone and raised her light brown eyebrow at me before she threw it in the water. It fell with a harmless plop. â€Å"Tragic!† I picked up my own stone and aimed it across the water. It skipped five times before falling below the surface. Callie laughed and clapped her hands. â€Å"You must teach me!† â€Å"You have to flick your wrist. And pick a flat stone.† I spotted a smooth brown rock with a white band ringing the top. â€Å"Here.† I put the rock in her hands. â€Å"Now, flick,† I said, gingerly touching her skin, making sure my fingers didnt brush against the vervain. She closed her eyes and tossed the stone, which skipped once, before falling into the water. She threw her arms up in delight. â€Å"Thank you, Stefan,† she said, her eyes twinkling. â€Å"No more ,,stranger?† I teased. â€Å"Youve taught me something. That means were friends.† â€Å"Does it, now?† I said, taking another stone and tossing it in the water. Damon and I had skipped stones in the pond near our home in Mystic Falls. Wed make wishes and pretend that they would come true if we could guess the number of skips a stone would make. I closed my eyes briefly. If it skips five times, I’ll have a chance to free Damon, I thought. But this stone was heavier and sank after two skips. I shook my head, annoyed at myself for indulging in such a childish game. â€Å"So was that your biggest concern in the world? That you couldnt skip stones?† I teased, trying to reclaim the light tone of our outing. She smiled, but her eyes looked sad. â€Å"No. But dont you think pretend problems are much more manageable than real ones?† â€Å"Yes, I do,† I said quietly. The sun was steadily rising, lending the lake an orange glow. Several small skiffs were already on the water, casting their nets, and the wind whipped around our ears, a reminder that even though the sun felt warm, winter was well on its way. â€Å"Ive never talked to anyone about this. Thats rule number two of the Gallagher family business–dont trust anyone,† she said. â€Å"Your father seems tough,† I ventured, sensing her frustration. â€Å"Perhaps too tough?† â€Å"My father is fine,† Callie snapped. She scowled at me, hands on her hips. â€Å"Im sorry,† I said, raising my hands in surrender. I realized Id pushed too far too quickly. â€Å"That was out of line.† Callie let her hands fall to her sides. â€Å"No, Im sorry. Im just protective of him. Hes all I have.† â€Å"Where is your mother?† I asked. â€Å"Died when I was six,† Callie said simply. â€Å"I understand,† I said, thinking of my own mother. â€Å"Its hard, isnt it?† Callie plucked a blade of grass from the ground and shredded it between her fingernails. â€Å"I try to be strong. But after Mother died, Father threw himself into work.† â€Å"It seems that you do that as well.† â€Å"Now that Fathers got the vampire act worked out, I feel like things will change for the better. He has a short fuse that gets shorter the less money he has.† At the mention of the vampire act, I kicked the stones around the edge of the shore. A flurry of pebbles flew through the air and landed several meters into the lake with a violent splashing sound. â€Å"What was that?† Callie asked, alarm in her voice. I forced myself to smile, to look calm–human. In my anger, Id forgotten to hide my Power. â€Å"Advanced stone skipping.† Callie raised an eyebrow, as if she wanted to challenge me. But all she said was: â€Å"We should get back. Dad wants us to clean up the grounds.† I nodded. â€Å"Good idea.† Alone here with Callie, Id come so close to losing control. â€Å"Stefan,† Callie said. â€Å"I was thinking since we dont have the shows for a few nights, do you think you could show me the city?† â€Å"But I dont know the city,† I pointed out. â€Å"Youve been here longer than I have.† Callies cheeks flushed poppy red. â€Å"Father doesnt let me leave the house, unless its for work. But there are so many shows and adventures in New Orleans.† She looked up at me from beneath her long lashes. â€Å"Please? Ill feel safe if Im with you.† I nearly laughed at the irony of that statement, but the chuckle caught in my throat. Callie had it wrong: She wouldnt necessarily be safe with me, but I could use her to guarantee the safety of my brother. After all, she knew everything about Gallaghers Circus–including where her father was holding Damon. â€Å"Okay, lets do it,† I said. â€Å"Oh, well have such fun!† Callie clasped my hands and whirled me around. â€Å"Meet me at the park at the end of my street at nine oclock.† She rose onto her tiptoes and kissed my cheek. She was so close, I could practically feel her heart beating against my chest. I pulled away abruptly, my head pounding and my jaw aching. I turned my back to her as my canines extended with a click. I had to take five deep breaths before they retracted again. â€Å"Are you okay?† she asked, placing her hand on my shoulder. I plastered a smile on my face and turned back to her. â€Å"Just excited for tonight.† â€Å"Good,† Callie said, humming to herself as we walked back to the circus grounds. I ran my tongue over my teeth. It was true: I was excited for tonight. But excitement was akin to desire, and as Id been learning ever since I met Katherine, nothing good ever came from desire. Ethical Hacking Techniques and Penetration Testing

Question: Discuss about the Ethical Hacking Techniques and Penetration Testing. Answer: Introduction There has been a huge development in the internet and networking technologies in the past few years (Siponen et al., 2014). With the advancement in the technologies the people have become very dependent on these technologies for obtaining knowledge. But this technology is also viable to breaches. The security breaches on the internet have been increasing with the time passing by. The report provides an example of one such incident that took place recently. It was reported recently that the Apple Store subjected to malware attack. The report contains information in details about the attack and also provides some recommendation, so that this type of security breaches could have been avoided. Apple Store Hit by Malware Attack According to the identityforce.com, it was reported that the Apple was subjected to malware attack recently. In the article, Apples App Store Hit by Malware Attack by the identityforce.com, on October 2, 2015, it was reported that the company had reported that about a dozen of apps that were infected by malware were discovered by the company ("September 2015 iPhone Hack", 2017). Until now the apple users have been experiencing a very high level of security. This is because the Apple Company does interact much with the third party manufacturers. In addition to this apple was not adopted to the level that the other companies were. Hence, the hackers did not target Apple to the extent that the other companies were. But recently security issues are being reported against the company. It was reported that the company had discovered several apps that were infected by malwares. It included some the very popular apps like WeChat, which has more than 500 million users. This report showed that the Apple Store can also be subjected to cyber-attacks on a large scale. It has been reported that the popularity and the increasing number of consumers of the company has made them a target for the hackers. It was reported that the App store was infected with the malware named XcodeGhost (Brockman, Stieglitz Cvetkovic, 2015). The program was found inside the legitimate programs of the App Store. It was fused inside the normal apps so that the user would not understand the defect of the app unless they download it from the store. The malicious programs that existed within the apps were detected by several cyber security firms. It was initially indicated by an e-commerce firm in China named Alibaba. They had discovered that the hackers had uploaded the altered version of the Xcode to one of the Chinese cloud storage service. The Xcode is the program that is used in the development of the iOS aps. In China and in various other parts of the network speeds might be slower. Hence, many of the developer tend to download the instances of the tool from other sources, and end up downloading the infected version of the tool. Although, Apple have a security tool named the Gatekeeper, but the in or der to develop the aps the coders would have to disable the security tool and use the XcodeGhost to develop the apps. Hence when these packages from the external sources are addd to the app code the app becomes infected and the infected app is uploaded into the store which infects the store in return. In addition to these millions of users have already downloaded these infected apps. All this users can potentially be affected to the harmful effects of the malware. The malwares have infected the popular apps so that more and more users could be affected by the security breach. The malware could obtain sensitive information about the users without the user even knowing about the attack. The malware would be able to send alerts to the device that is infected and can obtain the information about the user by tricking them into revelation of the information. The Apple Company have already taken down the apps that were infected from their store. In addition to this the company is looking into detecting more apps that were subjected to the malware attack. In addition to this the company should also look to enhance their security methods. The company should perform effective filtration techniques before allowing the apps to be uploaded on their store. In addition to this, the company should adopt proper testing techniques for the apps that are uploaded on their online store. Although, no instances of the user data being hacked was reported for the incident. In addition to this the users should also be aware of the situation. It is advisable for them to update or delete the reported apps. And also they should not be using the jail broken devices. So that they would be safe from the attacks of the malware. The report provides a brief analysis of one of the several incidents of security breach that are taking place lately. The incident of the breach that took place in the Apple store have been provided in this report. The process of the breach and the effect of the breaches have been provided in the report. In addition to this remedies have also been mentioned in the report. It could have been avoided if the company would have adopted a strict filtration process for the applications in their store. In addition to this the users are advised to update the apps regularly so that malware packages would be uninstalled from their devices. The hacking have had a great development in the past few years. Lately more and more hackers are encouraged to practice the technique (Craig Shackelford, 2014). This is a great development in the field of technologies. But in the recent time the technique is being used for illegal and unethical practices. This causes a great amount of problem for the society. In addition to this the practice is increasing day by day. The report consists of one of the incidents of hack case on the web (Elhai Hall, 2016). The report provide in brief some information about the telegram hack case. The procedures of the hack and the effect of the hack on the people have been described in the report. In addition to this some recommendation are also provided for the case. According to the Telegraph.com, it was reported that the hackers had gained access to a huge number of accounts on the messaging platform the Telegram. In the article, Iranian Hackers Attack Telegram to find 15 million accounts released on August 3, 2016, it has been reported that some Iranian hackers have gained access to the secure platform of messaging the Telegram (McGoogan, 2017). According to the report the security researchers have stated that the details of around 15 million users of Iran have been accessed by the hackers. The Telegram is considered one of the most secured messaging platform on the web. The hacking of the platform is a major case in recent times. The tool provides security and privacy to the users by the end to end encryption method. But the hackers that had used advanced methods for hacking into the systems. According to the report, the telecom companies have to option to intercept the messages that the company sends to the users when they are either logging into their accounts from a phone or some other devices. The hackers can easily use these intercepting techniques of the telecom companies and get access of the messages of the Telegram Company. In addition to this, there is also a chance that the Telecom companies are providing the data to the hackers and they are using it to set up the accounts on some other remote devices. This method makes the users vulnerable to the telecom companies and the hackers. Hence hacking into the sytem of the Telegram platform was unavoidable. According to the report around 15 million user in Iran were affected by the hack. The hackers could get the information of the users from the techniques implemented by them. The personal information of about 15 million users were available to the hackers. In addition to this the hackers could also intercept the messages that the users sent to each other. The reports on this case had spread fears into the minds of the users that were using the platform. They feared that most of their sensitive information that were contained in their messages would be available to the hackers. The common people also feared that very sensitive communications would be compromised. The people feared that they would be losing their privacy. In addition to this it has been also reported that about a dozen of telegram accounts have been compromised by the company. In addition to this since the Telegram is based on the phone numbers anyone can easily check the registration status of the phone number in the s ystem. Although the company have stated that, the users can continue using their accounts with the fear of breaches but they have not mentioned any such procedures by which they can protect their communications. The company have stated that do not block anybody who expresses the opinion peacefully. The company should try and increase their security constrains. In addition to this they should also look to improve their methods of communication. They should try and secure the communication processes. They should try and stop the telecommunication companies from intercepting into their networks. This reduce the risk of the communication information from getting hacked. The company has also stated that, the hacking is not a very serious issue. But the count of the effected users is around 15 million. Hence, the company should look into the security matters with more seriousness. Although the company blocks the terrorist bot and the channels, but they do not have a proper authentication process in place. In addition to this user should also be aware that they should not pass the sensitive information over the messages. In addition to this the users must follow the instruction provided by the company for securing their communication. The company advices the users to follow their two- step authentication process. The users should follow this process to keep their connections secure. Conclusion The hacking case of the Telegram Company have been provided in the report. The procedures of the incident and the effect of the hacking case have also been provided in the report. In addition to this information about some actions that could have taken by the company have also been provided in the report. The company should look to increase their security measure and should seriously look into the hacking case. In addition to this, the users should also be aware of the situation and perform their actions accordingly. They should follow the advices of the company to keep their connections secure. The Chosen - Malters Development Essays - The Chosen, The Promise

The Chosen - Malter's Development One of the most emotional scenes from Chaim Potok's The Chosen is when Reuven goes with Danny Saunders to talk to his father. Danny has a great mind and wants to use it to study psychology, not become a Hasidic tzaddik. The two go into Reb Saunders' study to explain to him what is going to happen, and before Danny can bring it up, his father does. Reb Saunders explains to the two friends that he already known that Reuven is going to go for his smicha and Danny, who is in line to become the next tzaddik of his people, will not. This relates to the motif of "Individuality" and the theme of "Danny's choice of going with the family dynasty or to what his heart leads him." The most developing character from the novel is Reuven Malter. One of the ways that he developes in the novel is in hus understanding of friendship. His friendship with D\fanny Saunders is encouraged by his father, but he is wary of it at first because Danny is a Hasid, and regards regular Orthodox Jews as apikorsim because of the teachings of his father. Reuven goes from not being able to have a civil conversation with Danny to becoming his best friend with whom he spens all of his free time, studies Talmud and goes to college. Reuven truly grows because he leans, as his father says, what it is to be a friend. Another way that Reuven grows is that he learns to appreciate different people and their ideas. He starts out hating Hasidim because it's the "pious" thing to do, even though his father (who I see as the Atticus Finch of this novel) keeps telling him that it's okay to disagree with ideas, but hating a person because of them is intolerable. Through his friendship with Danny, studies with Reb Saunders, brief crush on Danny's sister (who was never given a name), and time spent in the Hasidic community, he learns that Hasids are people too with their own ideas and beliefs that are as valuable as his. He learns why they think, act, speak, and dress the way that they do and comes to grips with the fact that he doesn't have a monopoly on virtue. A third way in which Reuven grows, though the book doesn't really talk about it a great deal, is in his appreciation of life, or cha'im in Hebrew. He almost loses his vision, his father nearly works himself to death, six million Jews are butchered in Europe, and Danny's brother's poor health threatens Danny's choice to not become a tzaddik. When his eye is out of order he can't read, and indeed does remark that it's very difficult to live without reading, especially with a voracious appetite for learning such as his. His father almost dies twice and he talks about how difficult it is to live all alone in silence (which is a metaphor alluding to Danny's everyday life) for the month while his father is in the hospital. He sees Reb Saunders and his father feeling the suffering of the six million dead, Saunders by crying and being silent, David Malter by working for the creation of a Jewish state and being a leader in the movement, in addition to teaching at a yeshiva and adult education classes. And of course Danny is very worried by his brother's illness (hemophillia?) because if he dies it will be even harded for Danny to turn down his tzaddikship. By the end of the book, Reuven Malter is a very changed character. Potok is an expert with using allusion and metaphor. Very subtly throughout the book he uses this for the purposes of renforcing his points, foreshadowing, and to make the book a better read when you've read it previously and know the outcome. One example of this, one that I missed the first time I read the book in 7th grade is the paragraph at the end of chapter nine where Reuven is sitting on his porch and sees a fly trapped in a spider's web with the arachnid builder approaching. He blows on the fly, first softly,

Life Essays

Life Essays Life Essay Life Essay Due Date: You will choose a time period from the 1 asss to the SASS: Research what was going socially, politically, economically during that time period You are then going to write a paper analyzing the time period and whatever topic you have chosen trying to express the connection between time, place and societal happenings and an aspect of the Humanities. Ex. Talk about an art movement etc, that occurred during the time period you choose. You might want to go the route of picking out songs that were popular during the time and analyze how the lyrics reflect the sentiment of the time. You might want to pick a film like Easy Rider and tell why you think it represents the mindset of freedom of the open road and restlessness of the sixties. Another Idea you might try Is research a type of music and how It reflected the time period. An example of this Is to look at the Jazz music In the sasss and tell about It represented a frenetic energy of time. You could look at how teens dressed In the fifties In comparison to how they began to dress In the slates and explain what was going on in the different decades to cause the difference. There are many different angles to go with on this assignment. The main thing you want to get out of this is how music, fashion, art, literature etc. Reflect what is going on in society at a given time period. You might want to even look at when a certain type of art began and see if there was anything going during that time in the art realm that made print making a much needed art form. You could look at a style of art such as graffiti or performance art and see when and where it began and analyze what was going on at the location or time period that facilitated the art form growing. You might want to look at Beat Poetry and see how the poets voiced the happening of the offs and sasss. You might want to analyze hip hop music and compare It to something like slave narratives and see how each may or may not reflect the different voices and mindsets of the African American cultures. As one of the examples that will be posted a detent wrote on the Star Wars phenomenon and how it affected American pop culture over past several decades Write a paper on a specific art or literature movement. Or you may choose an artist, or singer whose music or art may be a representation of a specific time period. Singer. You might want to focus on a specific religion or philosophy of a specific time period. You could also look at modern movies such as Super-Size Me and analyze why the fast food culture has harmed Americans and their health. Using a film to convey a state of societal concern or mindset has become very popular with films such as Bowling for Columbine and Super-Size Me to add social commentary about timely topics such as obesity and opinions on gun control. For Instance The Columbine Shootings re-awakened the right to bear arms debate that has been going on for decades and centuries, the question Is winy 010 It so napped Tanat tons tragedy re-awakened teen Tate to a null fever pitch. Was it the power of film? Was it Americans saying enough we have to protect ourselves within our own borders and against our neighbors? Whatever the opinion or answer it reflects societal mindset and perhaps a change in that mindset. Another idea might be to look at the representation of the human body in art at efferent time periods, in B.

Producing the financial statements Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Producing the financial statements - Coursework Example Producing the financial statements Building an engine factory needs substantial cash outlay in terms of capital. Capital items don’t go to the income statement unless in terms of financial cost like interest so the statement may be un affected but the financial position will be affected as money moves from the bank/cash for construction and to be eventually capitalized. Loans are relatively easy to acquire if there is collateral available but is a rather expensive mode of financing due to the ever increasing interest rates. Using retained earnings to finance is cheap and efficient but the disadvantage is that it will starve the company of liquidity needed to finance daily operations. If VW ceased operations in China, this will result in a 31 percent fall in sales which was attributed to the Chinese market in the last financial results. There will be a further loss of 9.6 bn Euros that is attributed to joint ventures. G.M’s net income of 595 million dollars that is derived from the Chinese market will also be lost. The recall caused a charge of 3.1 billion dollars on the income of G.M. The production expenses would certainly go down and hence increased productivity. The market being exited will experience direct and indirect job losses while the opposite will be the case for the market being entered. Shareholders are always concerned with the return on their investment and if this action results in a gain on their share value, the shareholders will be more than glad but if the share value does not appreciate then they will not be amused.

Problems Faced by Asian-Americans from 1965-Todate Essay

Problems Faced by Asian-Americans from 1965-Todate - Essay Example Such experiences of immigrants are well described by Ronald Takaki in his book â€Å"A History of Asian Americans: Strangers from the Different Shore.† Ronald Takaki has significantly highlighted the various problems and the difficulties that are faced by many Asian American immigrants in America. In his book, Ronald Takaki has addressed all the problems that are faced by many Asian American immigrants when they come to America in search of better jobs and better life. This book explores their difficulties and struggle in achieving the better opportunities and then finally adjusting themselves in American culture by adopting their ways, culture, norms and value. It is a known fact that Asian ethnic groups are faced with many difficulties and problems in America. Different people from China, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Philippine, Pakistan and Korea fall under Asian ethnic group. Main Problems Faced by Asian Americans: Asian Americans are faced with many problems and di fficulties in America. ... ian groups have been living and settled in America for over 150 years and it is obvious to see that they have adopted the American culture but still today they are considered as minority groups in the country. Americans consider them â€Å"Foreign† and they are given little or no respect at all. White people consider them no less than aliens who have invaded their land because of their non-European features and lifestyle. Ronald Takaki has also highlighted the ignorance of American Historians in recognizing the contributions of these Asians in the western society, particularly in America. According to Ronald Takaki, Asians were deprived of their basic rights in the country. They were forced to do jobs on lowest-labor costs which closed the doors of getting better jobs in order to acquire better lifestyle. Chinese were the first ones to enter in America; followed by Japanese and other Asian groups. However, Chinese were forced into lowest-paying jobs; they were insulted and bea ten by the local people and were deprived of basic rights. Here we cannot ignore the contributions made by Chinese in the construction of railroad in mainland and at Hawaii sugar plantations. Americans considered Chinese and Japanese as Foreigners. Chinese, Japanese and Korean women were barred to enter in the country which was an attempt to prevent the formation of their families and to limit their population in the country. Americans or the Whites had adopted the hostile attitude towards them, they were ill-treated by them and they were prevented to own any land or property in America. They were not allowed to cast their vote due to racial discrimination and hostile attitude of Americans towards Asians. Racial discrimination, lowest-paying jobs and prejudice are the three major problems that

Evolution of the Microprocessor

Evolution of the Microprocessor Introduction A microprocessor is that programmable IC that is used for executing instructions to the process of digital data or exercise digital control over the devices. It is primarily works as the central processing unit of computer system. The complexity of todays microprocessors make even modest description how microprocessors work beyond scope of the page. The worlds 1st microprocessor 4004, was co-developed by Buisson i.e. Japanese manufacturer of calculators, Intel U.S. manufacturer of semiconductors. After the development of a general-purpose LSI not only the desktop calculators but also the business machines are originally based on the decimal computer with the stored program methods a basic architecture 4004 was developed on August 1969; a plan for the 4004 system was finalized in Dec 1969; and the 1st microprocessor was successfully developed in Mar 1971. Microprocessors which becomes the technology to open up a new era, brought 2 outstand impacts, power of intelligence and power of computing. 1st microprocessors opened up the new era of programming through replacing with the software, the hardwired logic based on I of the former era of logic. At same that time, microprocessors allowed young engineers use power of computing for creative development of the personal computers and computer games which in turn led to the growth in software industry they paved the way to the development of the high-level performance of microprocessors. Also an engineer must be the armed with firm belief that on his mission is nothing but the development must be determined to the go of his own way, never following otherss track. 4004 performance was only 0.06MPS with 2238 transistors 750 KHz operating frequency. Microprocessors evolved 4 bit 64 bit microprocessor, introducing computer technologies such pipeline super-pipeline super scalar VLIW cache memory, and virtual memory system. Now is possible integrate 16 sets of the microprocessor with the 64GB of memory on board. In the 20th century, microprocessors are used for increase in the power of intelligence. In 21st century, microprocessors will evolve into the tool to bring forth wisdom for whole mankind . The Breakthrough In Microprocessors The switching units in computers that were used in the early 1940s were the mechanical relays. These were devices that opened and closed as they did the calculations. Come the 1950, and the vacuum tubes took over. The Atanasoff Berry Computer used in vacuum tubes as its switching units rather than relays. The switch from mechanical relay to vacuum tubes was an important technological advance as vacuum tubes could perform calculations considerably faster and more efficient than relay machines. This technological advance was short-lived because the tubes could not be made smaller than they were being made and had to be placed close to each other because they generated heat. Then came the transistor which was acknowledged as a revolutionary  development. In â€Å"Fire in the Valley†, describe the transistor as a device which was the result of a series of developments in applications of physics. Transistor has changed the computer from giant electronic brain to commodity like TV set. As a result of the technological breakthrough of transistors, the introduction of minicomputers of the 60s the personal computer revolution of the 70s was made it possible. However, researchers did not stop at the transistors. They wanted a device that  could perform more complex tasks—a device that could integrate a number of  transistors into a more complex circuit. Hence, the terminology, integrated circuits or ICs. Because physically they were tiny chips of silicon, they came to be also referred to as chips. Initially, the demand for ICs was typically the military and aerospace industries which were great users of computers and who were the only industries that could afford computers Later, an engineer at Intel, developed a sophisticated chip. This chip could extract data from its memory and interpret the data as an instruction. The term that evolved to describe such device was â€Å"microprocessor†. Therefore,â€Å"microprocessor† first came into use at Intel in 1972. A microprocessor was nothing more than an extension of the arithmetic and logic IC chips corporating more functions into one chip. Today, the term still refers to an LSI single-chip processor capable of carrying out many of the basic operations of a digital computer. Development Of Microprocessors Microprocessors essentially evolved from mechanical relays to IC what aspects of the computing industry led to the development of microprocessors. (1) Digital Computer Technology We know the computer industry learned to make large, complex digital computers capable of processing more data and also how to build and use smaller, less expensive computers. The digital computer technology is been growing steadily since the late 1940s. (2) Semiconductors It had also been growing steadily since the invention of the transistor in the late 1940s.In 1960s we saw the integrated circuit develop from just a few transistors to many complicated tasks, all of the same chip. (3) The Calculator Industry It appears as if this industry grew overnight during the 1970s from the simplest of four-function calculators to very complex programmable scientific and financial machines. Generation Of Microprocessor Microprocessors were categorized into five generation Their characteristics are described below: A. First-Generation The microprocessors that were introduced 1971 to 1972 were referred as the first generation systems. They processed their instructions serially fetched the instruction, decoded it, then executed it. When an instruction was completed, microprocessor updated the instruction pointer and fetched the next instruction, performing this sequential drill for each instruction in turn. B. Second Generation By the late 1970s , enough transistors were available on the IC to usher in the second generation of microprocessor sophistication: 16-bit arithmetic and pipelined instruction processing. Motorolas MC68000 microprocessor, introduced in 1979, is an example. Another example is Intels 8080. This generation is defined by the overlapped fetch, decode, and execute steps . As the first instruction is processed in the execution unit, the second instruction is decoded and the third instruction is fetched. The distinction between the first and second generation devices was primarily the use of newer semiconductor technology to fabricate the chips. This new technology resulted in a five-fold increase in instruction, execution, speed, and higher chip densities. C. Third Generation The third generation, introduced in 1978, was represented by Intels 8086 and the Zilog Z8000, which were 16-bit processors with minicomputer-like performance. The third generation came about as the IC transistor counts approached 250,000. Motorolas MC68020, for example, incorporated an on-chip cache for the first time and the depth of the pipeline increased to five or more stages. This generation of microprocessors was different from the previous ones in that all major workstation manufacturers began developing their own RISC-based microprocessor architectures . D. Fourth Generation As the workstation companies converted from commercial microprocessors to in-house designs, microprocessors entered their fourth generation with designs surpassing a million transistors. Leading-edge microprocessors such as Intels 80960CA and Motorolas 88100 could issue and retire more than one instruction per clock cycle E. Fifth Generation Microprocessors in their fifth generation, employed decoupled super scalar processing, and their design soon surpassed 10 million transistors. In this generation, PCs are a low-margin, high-volume-business dominated by a single microprocessor V. Micro From Vacuum Tube To Todays Dual-Core Multithreaded Madness Before The Flood In The 1960s Just on the scant in the few years after the first laboratory ICs .Fairchild introduce their first commercial use integrated circuit Already start of decade, process that would last until present day commercial ICs. There is a no doubt but the technology design process were rapidly evolved. Observing the trend Fairchild director of R D Gordon observed that density of elements in the ICs doubling annually predicted that thread would continue next 10 years. With certain amend, this is came to be known Moores Law. The first ICs contained just few transistors per wafe by the dawn of the 70s for 1000 of the transistors per wafer. Its the only matter of the time before the someone would use this capacity to put entire computer on a chip several someones, indeed. Development Explosion: The 1970s The idea of the computer on single chip described in the literature earlier. Finally process had caught up to thinking the computer on the chip was made it possible. The air was an electric with the possibility . Once feat establish rest of the decade saw the prolife of the companies old new getting into semiconductor business as first pc, first arcade games even the first home video game sys are also spreading consumers contacts with the electronics paving way for continued rapid growth in b/w 80s. At beginning of the 70s microprocessors yet not introduced. By end of the decade saturated market led to price wars processors were already introduced16-bit. First Three Three groups claim for the first to put the computer on a chip. The Central Air Data Computer the Intel the Texas Instruments TMS 1000. Where Are They Now ? CADC spent about 20 years in the top secret cold war of the era until finally being classified in the 1998. Thus even it was first that remained under peoples radar even today didnt have chance to influence other until the early microprocessor design. Intel 4004 have the short the mostly history to supersed by the 8008 other early Intel chips. Chip was not finally marketed in standalone form in 1974 for the low price of US $2 per piece. In the year of 1978 a special version of the TITMS 1000 is being brains of educational Speak Spell toy which E.T. jerry rigged to the phone home. Early Intel- 4004 8008 8080 Intel released their 1st single 4-bit all purpose chip the Intel 4004 in Nov 1971. Its clock speed of 108KHz 2,300 transistors with ports for ROM RAM I/O. Originally it was designed for use in the calculator Intel had to negotiate its contract to become able to market its product stand alone processor. Intel 8008 was introduced in the month of April 1972 didnt make much splash being more or less 8-bit 4004. Its primary claim was form the basis for 8080 later 8086 architecture. Intel put back with the 8080 which was used the same instruction set earlier by the 8008 and is generally considered to be first usable microprocessor. Where is Intel stand now? Last time when we checked Intel was on the still around. RCA- 1802 In 1974 RCA released the 1802 of the 8-bit processor with an different architecture than the other 8-bit processors. It consist of a register file of 16 registers that is of 16 bits each using the SEP instruction you can select any of the registers be the program counter. Interesting variation was the two or more than two subroutines a ring so that they were to the be called as the roundrobin order. The RCA 1802 was considered one of the first risc chips. Where Is Now ? RCA chip was the biggest market failure due to slow clock cycle speed. But it can be the fabricated to the radiation resistant so used on Voyage Viking Galileospace probes. IBM 801 In 1975 IBM produced some earliest efforts to build microprocessor based on RISC design. IBM 801 was named after address of where the chip designed but suspect that IBM systems already numbered 601 701. Where Is 801 Now Gone? 801 chip family never saw main use was primarily used in other IBM hardwares. The Evolution Of RISC RISC Relegate the Important Stuff to the Compiler known as load store architectures. In the 1970 research at IBM produced result that the some of the operations are actually slower than the number of smaller operations doing same thing. A famous eg. was the VAXsINDEX instruction which ran slower than loop implementing same code. Moto 6800 Motorola introduced 6800 chip in the 1978 with the 78 instructions probably the first microprocessor with index register. When comes to program flexibility maintenance they are the wasteful when it was comes using scarce computer memory. Where Is 6800 Now Gone? Motorola is the only stand alone processors microcontrollers trace their lineage to mbdew 6800 including popular powerful 6809 of 1979. Where Is Industry Of Microprocessors Going? Almost immediately after their introduction, the microprocessors became the heart of the personal computer. Since then, the improvements have come at an amazing pace. The 4004 ran at 108 kHz thats kilohertz, not megahertz and processed only 4 bits of data at a time. Todays microprocessors and the computers that run on them are thousands of times faster. Effectively, theyve come pretty close to fulfilling Moores Law which states that the number of transistors on a chip will double every 18 month Performance has increased nearly same rate Conclusion The microprocessor are their around for more than 20 years already. It is now comes in many forms sizes levels of sophistication powering all the kinds of applications that they rely on control of computer.althouh the cpu of computer system it needs to interact with some other semiconductor device in order to perform functions. And devices include memory input/output devices constitute rest of the computer system. Thus we know from where microprocessor evolutes till where goes. Freedom †Short Story from Tkam After Tom Robinson’s Trial Essay

As I sat outside watching the other inmates, a gentle breeze caressed my face, providing relief from the sun’s hot rays. I was used to the heat, but maybe it was the circumstances that I was in that made it unbearable. I could see that my fellow inmates felt the same as they lazed about, their skin glistening with sweat, their shirts clinging to their backs. ‘Guilty until proven innocent’ rang angrily in my mind when I saw the number of Negroes compared to white people incarcerated. The amount of court cases, as well as families, jobs and lives, lost due to our colour was innumerable. Half of us didn’t even commit a crime worth being sent to jail for, but here we are! I wiped my forehead with an already sticky hand and surveyed my surroundings in an effort to shake off the contemptuous thought. The dirt oval consisted of some simple worn out exercising equipment, their hinges squeaking in protest with very movement; a few withering trees dying in the midday heat, two lookouts sitting on the inside of the perimeter where the prison guards patrolled the prisoners and a barbed wire fence which enclosed the space in an ominous hug. I thought pensively about my situation as I kicked the dusty ground vehemently, scuffing my already torn prison boots in the process. The rising hopelessness that I had kept bottled up throughout the court case, believing that with Mr Finch on my side I would definitely be acquitted, quickly vanished, much like the specks of dirt that I had kicked up had disappeared, carried away with the breeze of reality. I observed the bluejays on the nearby trees, warbling their little hearts out with not a care in the world, unaware of the injustice that had occurred. I was being punished for a crime that I had not committed, accused by a woman whom I have assisted for nigh a year! The court case didn’t just affect me – it affected my family as well and I don’t want them to suffer because of it. What will they do? How will Helen watch the chillun’ and work? They don’t deserve this! My family needs me. It was already a struggle to bring food to the table everyday, and now with most of our income ripped away, I can’t bring myself to fantasise what my family would have to suffer. Would Helen have to starve to keep the chillun’ physically satisfied? I’ve prayed for them every night confined in the dungeon, praying that God would help them through this adversity. Ms Mayella obviously doesn’t realise that her decision to accuse me affects my family just as much as it affects me. She used the only ticket that would guarantee her victory over the court case, which would prove her innocent from the despicable crime that she had committed – her race. The inequity displayed towards Negroes always perplexed me. We came from the same ancestors, Adam and Eve, but somehow, white people were born having more rights than others, perceived as superior to others, more moral than others. I should’ve conceded that I was a black man living in a white man’s world, and no matter what I did to prove myself innocent, there would be no justice for me. I hate how all white people acrimoniously conclude that all Negroes lie, all Negroes are basically immoral beings and all Negroes aren’t to be trusted around women, as Mr Finch mentioned. How can people be so shallow, so malevolent and so blind? They’re living a lie! How dare America call themselves a democracy when they can’t even treat their own people equally, lowering our rights, our standards and our lives! The act of incarcerating all black people for almost everything that we do is a paradox to their self-proclaimed government. It is overdue to set things straight, but there is no better time than now to change the way Negroes are treated. I am not going to wait for someone else to take justice, as God knows when that is going to come. Justice is in my hands. The only possible way that I can achieve this is to run. They’re going to kill me nonetheless so I’m already a dead man walking, but I’m not dying knowing that I just sat there letting them persecute me while knowing that I did nothing to prevent this precedent from occurring again to other Negro families. I must run. I quickly rose from the bench which I was seated on and began jogging the perimeter of the oval, keen to find an escape route to freedom. I took a quick glance at the patrollers- they were watching us inattentively, their faces impassive and eyes glazed over, contenting themselves in their current daydreams. I scrutinized the fence for any weakness. There were several places where the fence sagged, but all seemed intact. I searched for other possible escape routes, my eyes slowly taking in every detail of the oval, but when failing to find any, I approached an oak tree to ponder over my next move, when flashbacks of my family and previous life overwhelmed me. There were many oak trees in my life – in my backyard, on the sidewalk, at work – but I never knew until now that they were so prominent in my life. There were oak trees that my children loved to climb on, loved to hide in, loved to have mini adventures in. There were oak trees that I watched from my kitchen window as their branches were softly tickled by the wind, which Helen used to sit under and pensively think about life’s uncertainties, which grew and thrived with my family. There were oak trees which provided me a job, which I spent countless hours climbing up and down laboriously picking acorns, which earned me money to support my family. My heart ached with sadness when I thought back to those wonderful memories, making me miss my family even more than I originally did. Helen would probably be working strenuously to support the children now without my help. What this event has put my family through is unthinkable. I can’t prevent what I am currently putting them through, but they must understand that if I do no try to get free I will be killed nonetheless. Everyone deserves to have equal rights, and I am going to be the person bringing justice. I am not going home after my jail sentence knowing that I did nothing to prevent further injustice from occurring to thousands of other Negroes. I want to be able to tell my chillun’ that I didn’t just sit there being persecuted, allowing other Negroes to be persecuted as well, as the pain that discrimination puts us through throughout our lives is unbearable. I want to be a role model for them; to be an example for fighting for what is right. Even though doing so may be dangerous and may lead to death, bringing justice to every race is worth losing a life for. In a sudden burst of adrenaline and surprising confidence I sprinted as fast as my legs could carry me to the barbed wire fence and began climbing. I almost leaped backwards in surprise as my bare skin came into contact with the burning metal that had been basking in the sun all day, but my mind was set on my goal, and so I ignored the acrid pain and scaled the fence. Consecutively, shouts of surprise and disbelief spread through the prisoners, and, as if my actions brought them back to life, the angry voices of the prison guards soon followed. Hollering warnings and portentous threats, the patrollers showed no evidence that a few seconds ago they were practically lifeless, but their efforts were wasted as it proved completely futile. With my prior experience climbing trees for Mr Deas, I quickly adapted to my situation and climbed, my hand and feet working simultaneously to make up for my deprivation. My eyes darted to elusive spaces between the barbs and my hand quickly followed suit, with my legs climbing after them. The barbs clung and sliced at my arms and clothes as the patrollers’ threats became more ominous, their cries climbing to a climatic forte, ineffective at impeding my pilgrimage. The word justice was repeated over and over in my mind, instilling a new hope in me, encouraging me to continue climbing. This failed when a gunshot shattered my tranquillity. A bolt of pure panic shot through me, causing my heart to thrash against my ribs as I realised the severity of my situation. I lost my footing, dangling in mid-air for a second, but immediately found another foothold and scaled the fence even faster than before. Seeing that the gunshot failed to stop me, several more shots were fired into the air, counterproductive as it only made me move twice as fast. ‘Quicker! Quicker! ’ my body seemed to holler at me, dissatisfied with the speed that I was travelling. My stomach started to twist with despair, my newfound hope abandoning me, slowly overtaken by doubt – then a bullet whistled past my ear inches from my face. My hand began shaking uncontrollably from pure fear. My lungs were screaming for air, the spikes were screaming for blood, but my scream for justice overpowered them all. More deathly bullets whistled past, when one successfully tore through my leg. An explosion of pain raked my leg, and immediately I felt warm blood gush out of my pulsing wound. I was almost over the fence though! Clenching my teeth, I reached between the razor wire. The screams and hollering of the prisoners were vociferous, but nothing mattered as the second bullet hit my crippled shoulder. It immediately burst into flames as I started sweating uncontrollably, the back of my shirt soaked with blood, clinging to me. In a last ditch effort, I hauled myself between the razor wire to the other side of the fence leading to freedom. A third bullet tore through my thigh, sending me rolling to the ground in a bloodied heap while other bullets whizzed past and wounded me. The shrill roar in my ears gradually ceased to a dull hum, and dizzying black splotches began crowding my vision. The last thought that left my mind was: Freedom.

Adhd Children With Adhd Essay - 1495 Words

I have a twelve-year-old son who over the past few years has exhibited signs of what one might diagnose as ADHD if he were examined at a particular point, in a particular classroom, with a particular teacher. In other situations, he is completely able to focus on his tasks and has no problem whatsoever with comprehension and understanding the material he is supposed to learn and in in fact mastering that material. He had an assessment known as an APP done in the second grade and it was determined that he was not a child with ADHD. It has been five years since the second grade and his evaluation and I have had certain teachers mention subsequently that he shows signs of ADHD. My son is now in middle school and has friends that have been diagnosed with ADHD at a â€Å"drop of a hat†. Seeing this, he now thinks that he has ADHD because he shares some of the same characteristics as some children who have been diagnosed with ADHD. I on the other hand believe there are other factors involved and firmly believe that ADHD is over-diagnosed and in fact believe that diet, mental state, and relationships can be a major influence on those children who present symptoms of ADHD. Throughout this paper I will try to answer the question â€Å"Do factors such as diet, psychological well being, and social environment affect children who present as having ADHD?† I will use the biopsychosocial approach to view the following: The biological ways to help cope with ADHD, the psychological ways to helpShow MoreRelatedChildren With Adhd ( Adhd )838 Words   |  4 Pages Children with ASD sometimes present aggressive behavior, self-injurious behavior and tantrums that impede their ability to learn in an educational environment (home school).
